Update: Steele Interested in RNC Post

As reported here on Friday, Republican leaders are considering offering the chairmanship of the RNC to Maryland Lt.-governor Michael Steele. Speaking on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Steele said that he would accept an offer to run the party.

UNDATED (AP)- Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele says he would be interested in chairing the Republican National Committee, if the job offer comes his way. Steele spoke on C-SPAN'S "Washington Journal" show on Sunday. The Republican says he doesn't know who will be the new chair, but it's something he is considering if the opportunity presents itself. Steele says he hasn't had any conversations with the White House yet about the job. He says he'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks. Steele lost his bid for a U.S. Senate seat to Congressman Benjamin Cardin on Tuesday. Steele says he thinks it's time for the Republican Party to rethink its views. He says the GOP failed to address issues that concerned voters.
